Student Assignment Algorithms 101

Webinar Recording and Summary

Thursday, August 26, 2021 - 11:00am PT / 2:00pm ET

Let’s kick off Back to School season with Matching 101. How to bring different players together in the best possible way is a key economics problem. In the 1960s, David Gale and Lloyd Shapley studied different matching methods theoretically and, beginning in the 1980s, Al Roth explained how markets function in practice. In the 2000s, Parag Pathak began applying this science directly to school enrollment and won the John Bates Clark Medal for that work. In this webinar, Parag will provide a simple overview of the science and economics behind school lotteries, matchmaking, and market design.
